    Classic Montenegro from Kotor

Classic Montenegro from Kotor

  • City: Kotor, Budva
  • Duration: Approximately 6 hours.

Overview

Despite having only 5,332 square miles surface, Montenegro is not short on spectacular panoramas. Geographers say that in the Balkans of southeastern Europe, this is the the area with the most diverse landscape. From the inland part that is dominated by impressive mountains to the beautiful beaches that dot the coast, Montenegro offers unspoilt nature and historical architecture will have you constantly reaching for your camera.

Your full-day tour will start in Kotor port where your guide will be waiting for you on the dock and will give you an overview of the city's history. Kotor is famous for its walls that were started in the 9th century to protect the city from invading enemies. Located deep in the Bay of Kotor that some consider a natural fjord due to its shape, the city is surrounded by four mountains that create a very impressive image. The city walls were skillfully crafted to blend in with the natural, steep slopes of the mountains.

The tour continues to Budva, or as some call it, 'Las Vegas of the Balkans'. Budva lies on a small peninsula and thanks to its beautiful beaches, restaurants, and bars, it is one of the staples of Montenegrin tourism. After an easy walk on a long sandy beach or cup of coffee on Budva boardwalk, the tour continues to Perast for a boat ride to the little island of Our Lady of Rocks with its monumental Baroque church. This is the only island in the Adriatic that was artificially created.

Last stop is Risan, the oldest settlement in the Bay of Kotor, where you will see some Roman mosaics from the 2nd century.

At the end of this tour, you will return to the meeting point in Kotor port.
